I enjoy playing Scott Joplin’s Ragtime pieces, which gave me my first glimpses into the style. Some of my own compositions draw inspiration from similar aspects of what Scott Joplin himself emphasised as “West African music” in his foreword to the published book of his Ragtime compositions.
